Kevin Dunigan --
With the start of August on the horizon and the tail end of summer upon us there are two things that are being reborn in the coming weeks. Football is back and so am I! Two-A-Days begin August 1 and I will be back in the booth calling games for the first time on a consistent basis since the 2007 season. I am very excited to be back in the booth, near the fields, within the fans and promoting the players for the first time in 12 seasons. This marks my 20th season as a member of the media and my 20th season promoting, covering and calling games in some capacity either on radio, in print or the internet in SE Ohio.
For those of you who don't know me; who am I? I am a former Logan High School athlete and knucklehead, who attended the University of Toledo and did my first radio broadcast at Nelsonville-York as the Bucks hosted Logan during the 1999-2000 basketball season for WLGN in Logan. I have called games ever since for WLGN, 107.7 WSEO and 105.5 WXTQ where I will be again this season. I have hosted several shows over my lifetime (Coach's Corner, Chalk Talk, The 2 Point Conversion; catchy names I know!) and hosted my own call in show on ESPN1510 where I was very lucky to interview some great athletes like Archie Griffin, Chris Spielman, Katie Smith, as well as Coaches like Urban Meyer, Jim Tressel, Tyrone Willingham (when at ND) just to name a few. I was also the Sports Editor for the Logan Daily News from 1998-2001.
What keeps bringing me back are the kids. The players. These kids work as hard as anyone to get themselves ready for a season and to see them do what they do in all their glory, is why I can't walk away from promoting their efforts. I just love being around it.
Joining me this season in the booth will be former Logan Chieftain player and longtime assistant coach Brian Breining. Brian has been around the game for a long time and he knows his Xs and Os. He has a great mind for the game and should make the Friday night experience on the Game of The Week a good one for our listeners.
We are both very excited for the upcoming season and we look forward to how the long 10 week road winds out and we are hopeful to bring even more action into the playoffs with our local teams as well.
This season should be a great one and we have several local teams who have a ton of talent that could take them deep into the season for league titles as well as playoff runs. Here are my predictions for the upcoming TVC portion of the season and how I think teams may finish:
7. South Gallia
9. Federal Hocking
1. Nelsonville York
4. Vinton County
7. River Valley
It should be an amazing season and I am looking forward to not only being out at the stadiums but back in studio for my 3rd season as host of the Football Friday Night post game show with Troy Bolin. This season Lukas Moore and I will share hosting duties and it will be a great mix of his youthful excitement with my old school knowledge and it will give the fans a great mix of football for anyone listening this season. Fear not football junkies, the 7 on 7's are in full swing and soon there will be popping pads, intense coaches on the sidelines, jamboree games, and marching bands signaling the end of summer and the push through the fall with the start of the 2019 High School Football Season upon us. See you at the stadium!
